MY JOURNEY

a masterful piece of contemporary art by vic lake.

PROJECT:

MELANOMA INSTITUE OF AUSTRALIA FUNDRAISER

This expansive acrylic contemporary piece, measuring an impressive 1.8 meters by 1.8 meters, stands intentionally unframed, inviting viewers to engage directly with its vibrant, dynamic canvas. The art piece is masterfully employs bold, vivacious colours and energetic movement to evoke a profound sense of journey, with its inherent ups and downs, culminating in a palpable sense of accomplishment.

A notable feature of this work is its strong religious undertone. A higher realm is symbolized by a radiant white energy that hovers above, overseeing the kinetic progression below. The cacophony of yellow ochre, which initially commands the canvas, gradually diminishes, giving way to serene shades of blue that signify calmness and tranquility. Yet, the journey is punctuated by intermittent ochre strokes, serving as poignant reminders of the traveler’s experiences and the ever-present potential threats along their path.

THE JOURNEY
My journey, though deeply personal, has been profoundly shaped by my battle with melanoma. Through the challenges and uncertainties, I found strength in the unwavering support of my family and friends. However, it was the remarkable dedication of Professor Georgina Long AO and her team at the Melanoma Institute of Australia that truly changed my path. Their expertise and compassion inspired me to create this painting—a testament to my journey and a heartfelt endeavor to give back. This piece symbolises not only my personal triumph but also the resilience and hope that fueled my recovery.

THE AUCTION
The upcoming auction holds special significance as it aims to raise much-needed funds for the Melanoma Institute of Australia. Inspired by my own melanoma journey and the invaluable support of Professor Georgina Long AO and her team.

This initiative is a heartfelt effort to give back with all proceeds from the auction,  donated to support ongoing research and patient care at the secretion of the Institute.

Should this fundraiser prove successful, I am eager to continue contributing through future art pieces or even introduce an annual event like “Autumn Art Extravaganza!” to extend the impact of “Melanoma March.”

Together, through art and community support, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against this dreadful disease.
