GUNNAMATTA BAY
PROJECT:
MULT-RESIDENTIAL
SETTING:
GUNNAMATTA BAY, CRONULLA
TEAM:
ARCHITECTURE: VIC LAKE, NICOLAS PAPAS, FABRIZIO CERUTI
PROJECT MANAGER: JEFF DOOLEY
A challenging sloping waterfront site with a heritage order over three large date palms, just perfect for a luxury duplex.
The project real success was primarily due to an experience developer builder by the name of Peter Hall. Peter’s insight and construction abilities drove the architectural design and the very successful outcome that the discerning Cronulla market truly appreciated.
A stacked two level dual occupancy, one dwelling above the other all sitting above a large basement. Great for privacy, great for solar access, great for cross ventilation and the only way to maximise the water views over Gunnamatta Bay.
Both dwellings have ample secure garaging, storage and a private passenger lift.
The ground floor dwelling had direct access to a large covered terrace with a large infinity-edge pool, external kitchen and terraced garden that lead to the reclaimed sandy beach, common jetty, swing ramp and pontoon.
The upper floor dwelling has a large covered terrace and plunge pool both having panoramic views over Gunnamatta Bay.
Both dwellings have simple open planned floor layouts where the main living spaces received northern sun with generous openings towards the view. The master bedroom and ensuite are also positioned to take in the water views.
The façade is tidy and well organised under a “floating” flat roof disguised with a signature raking fascia and highlight window. The boat-like form floats above the building creating a sharp knife edge when seen against the sky.
A simple framed element clad with silver travertine has been used on the street front producing a strong horizontal layering in contrast to the vertical character of the two heritage palm street evoking a rich distinction and luxurious welcoming and topped off with beautifully landscaped entrance courtyards.
As mentioned above, this project would not have enjoyed the success without the careful directions from Peter Hall an exceptional developer and true gentleman.
